No.10016 : Anonymous [13/05/23(Thu)14:07] [Report] [SNAP]

So, I decided to start transitioning soon and I've done pretty much everything to get myself started but I haven't told my parents yet. I'm not under 18 (I'm 20), so they don't need to sign any medical forms for me or anything, but I just don't know how I would go about coming out to them. I don't really want to skip out on telling them though. Do any of you have any tips for coming out to parents? :3

Since, i am runing out of time to catch a train, I would be brief.

  1. TEST THE WATERS: talk to them about how they feel in general about transexuality, like 'Hey, the other day one of my coworkers, or this friend i have told me she is trans' and see how they respond. much better volunteer to invite that person home and see how they respond to it.
  2. try sending them a open letter or email and do it before you take of for vacation or something so that it would take a week or so to sink in. if they would immediately contact you after reading the letter, emotions will soar high and verbal arguments would heat up.
  3. Don't tell them everything at one go, unless they request it. Don't tell them how far you are planing to take your transition untill they approach first, but always let them know that you are willing to answer all questions.
  4. Finally, tell them no matter what, you still value them and you would like their continued presence in your life.

......

If you have any further queries.....drop a note here, maybe the weekend i would find time to write a detailed explanation,.
